That’s where the Post-Apprenticeship Recognition Scheme (PARS) comes in – a new initiative giving former apprentices the recognition they deserve with formal post-nominal letters, much like academic or chartered qualifications.
What is PARS?
Launched by the Association of Apprentices (AoA) in collaboration with the Chartered Institution for Further Education (CIFE), PARS awards post-nominal letters to individuals who have completed an apprenticeship in the UK since January 2019. These letters can be added after your name on CVs, LinkedIn profiles, email signatures, and other professional documents – a small addition with a big impact.
Why does it matter?
While apprenticeships equip learners with valuable skills and hands-on experience, recognition typically ends with a simple completion certificate. PARS fills this gap by giving apprentices a visible, formal credential that reflects their level of learning and commitment.

PARS awards - what do the letters mean?
Each award corresponds to the level of your completed apprenticeship:
- CSA – Certificate of Standard Apprenticeship (Level 2)
- CAA – Certificate of Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3)
- CHA – Certificate of Higher Apprenticeship (Level 4/5)
- CGA – Certificate of Graduate Apprenticeship (Level 6/7)
These align with England, Northern Ireland, Wales, and Scottish frameworks, and reflect both technical expertise and workplace readiness.
Who can apply?
You’re eligible if you:
- Completed a UK-recognised apprenticeship on or after 1 January 2019
- Hold an official apprenticeship completion certificate
- Can provide a reference (usually your employer or training provider)
The application process is simple and can be done online. Depending on the level, you’ll answer questions reflecting on your experience and professional development.
What’s the cost?
There’s a one-time fee per application:
- CSA – £40
- CAA – £58
- CHA – £64
- CGA – £75
However, support is available for applicants facing financial hardship.
